Frequently asked questions for GP appointments.....

How do I get a GP Consultation?

What is telephone first?

How do I know what appointment is right for me?

We are offering a telephone first appointment system. If you require a GP appointment, please contact the reception team. There will be 3 appointment options available (like we had before COIVD).

1: Routine appointment - this will be a telephone review that can be booked up to 2 weeks in advance. This will be a 15 minute consultation with the GP at a time that will be pre-booked so you will know an approximate time to expect the call. The receptionist will take a brief description of the nature of the call and a contact number, this will help the GP prepare for your call. If the GP needs to see you face to face they will make the appointment for you.

2:  48 hour access appointments - this has limited availability and these slots fill up very quickly, so if you are requesting this type of appointment you would need to ring first thing in the morning as it is first come first served. This is for a condition that you don't feel can wait for a routine appointment. Again, the receptionist will take a brief description and contact number and allocate an approximate time that you will receive a call back from the GP. This will be a 10 minute consultation. If the GP needs to see you face to face they will make an appointment for you.

3: Triage appt - urgent on the day. If you need this type of appointment we ask that you phone between 8:30am and 10:00am. Again these appointments fill up very quickly. This is for an acute medical issue that can not wait (please note a request for a letter or to complete forms will not be dealt with by the on-call GP, this will need to be a routine appointment request). The receptionist will take a brief description and up to date contact number for the GP to call you back. The receptionist is not assessing how urgent your call is therefore will not be able to give you a time the GP will call you back that day. This appointment will be only to discuss one medical issue.
